Black Hawk

Black Hawk.

Es gibt nicht viele Zwei-Komponenten-Drinks. Um so erstaunlicher ist es, daß von diesen nur wenige bekannt sind. Der Black Hawk ist einer davon. Er verdient es, wieder bekannter zu werden.

35 ml 1776 James E. Pepper Rye
35 ml Plymouth Sloe Gin

Zubereitung: Gerührt.

Alternativ und von uns aktuell bevorzugt:

35 ml Stork Club Straight Rye
35 ml Plymouth Sloe Gin

Der Black Hawk erschien erstmals bei Jacob Abraham Grohusko im Jahre 1908. Die ersten Drinks mit Sloe Gin als Zutat erschienen im Jahr 1900 bei Frank Newman, Harry Johnson und James C. Mahoney.

Woher der Black Hawk seinen Namen hat, läßt sich leider nicht ermitteln. Der Name könnte sich auf Vögel beziehen, auf Orte in den USA, auf Hotels, Indianer und vieles mehr. [1]

Diese Rezeptur wird immer Black Hawk genannt. Lediglich 1920 heißt der Drink Good Cheer. Gold Digger’s Cocktail wird er 1935 und 1937 genannt.

    Mir ist ein Drink bekannt, namens Bourbon Black Hawk Down (#2) mit Parallelen zu diesem, lediglich um die „Sour-Komponente“ erweitert.
    Ich meine das Rezept aus dem C&D-Forum zu haben.
    Dieser hier klingt aber fantastisch, wird probiert!

    • Danke für die Information. Die Kombination von Sloe Gin und Rye als Sour-Variante ist in den historischen Büchern sehr ungewöhnlich. Ich habe 2 Funde gemacht, die in diese Richtung gehen:

      1913 Hans Schönfeld & John Leybold: Lexikon der Getränke. Seite 142. Merry-Widow-Punsch. Fülle Punschglas halb mit Eis, füge hinzu: 2 Spritzer Citronensaft, den Saft einer Viertel Orange, 1 Teelöffel Zucker, 1 Cocktailglas Sloe-Gin, 1/2 Likörglas Rye-Whisky, 1 Spritzer Rum, rühren, garnieren mit Saisonfrüchten.

      1934 Anonymus: The Complete Bartender’s Guide. Seite 88. Khedive. 1/2 jigger sloe gin. 1/2 jigger rye whisky. 1/2 squeezed lemon. 1 dash raspberry syrup. 1 tablespoonful sugar. 1 dash cream. 1 fresh egg. Shake well and strain in fizz glass; add seltzer.
